Great story, full of mystery, love, and friendships. Strong characters propel the plot and keep you reading. The twist with Paul will have me pondering for awhile. Highly recommended.
I liked the storyline and the suspense part of this "romantic suspense" book. I guessed the answer to the email riddles fairly early but didn't guess the real guilty party until shortly before their identity was revealed. The romance part of the book, however, was not my cup of tea. I felt the thoughts and feelings were too intense given the circumstances and length of time these characters had known each other. If you like immediate, all-in emotional involvement, this might be for you, it just didn't work for me. I also felt the revelations of Sam's mother at the very end were improbable, possibly in part because they were so rushed and crammed in to the final few pages.
From the first line on the first page of Don't Let it Show, Tess St. John takes us on an amazing ride full of twists and turns. Gail Martin is a lawyer... no a lawyer whose license has been suspended. That makes her no less determined to unravel the gibberish riddle that she keeps receiving via email and figure out how or if it's related to her mother's life and death and the man wrongly imprisoned for that crime. She's on a quest for truth.
Enter sexy Undercover FBI agent Sam Newton. He's determined to protect her. His mission is secret but his attraction to Gail is impossible to hide. Together they track the truth. When you think it's all worked out, Ms. St John surprises with the unexpected.
Don't Let it Show has characters that will stick in your head, a plot that's full of surprises and a wonderful love story. You don't want to miss this first book in the Undercover Intrigue Series.
Hmmmm, I don't know. This book had a weird vibe to it. It was interesting. I was never bored. Something just felt off about it. Maybe it was because I got confused a lot. The scenes changed suddenly. At times it was hard to read. It backed up & reread several times. There was a lot going on in this one book. A lot of characters. I'm not saying that's a bad thing though. I don't feel like that hurt the book. I liked that she went home with him to meet his family, even though I thought it was stupid that he left her in her hotel & he stayed in a B & B, & she never questioned that. I thought the ending that had to do with Paul was ridiculous. Another thing, there were a lot of female characters, & every single one of them was gorgeous. /
Anyway it was pretty good. I would read another book by this author.
Don't Let It Show - A mesmerizing, well-written story with some predictable and some not expected twists. The characters were interesting and believable. I'm very happy to have found this author; will read more of her work.
Tyler - This short story was a joy to read. Two best friends dealing with the loss of a loved one over a three year period. The story kept my interest, both characters were well developed and believable. I look forward to reading more of this author’s work. The story was given to me by the author and then I bought it. JC - Heartwarming! What a wonderful story! The agony she suffered through and the pain he was in, while not knowing the truth. Ms. St. John writes wonderful stories and this is one of her best. A well written, heartbreaking and heartwarming romance harmed by an illness, that brings out the gamut of emotions.
I contacted the author to review books since everything I have read by her is outstanding. She does not disappoint the reader with her plots, characters and writing style.
3.5 rounded up. There were parts that I really liked about this book. Especially the first half. I thought Gail and Sam had good chemistry and authored stretched out the courtship a bit which I liked, nice change from the one date fall into bed storylines lately. But I would agree with another reviewer that their feelings were very intense very fast. I was very intrigued by the mystery with the email and with how Sam's undercover work would play out. Well done there.
Supporting characters...hummm... some of them, especially Sam's family were just odd and I was kind of scratching my head trying to figure out how their "oddness" or dynamics played into the story. Towards the end it was just not what I excepted, and I am not sure that I mean it in a totally positive way, but not quite in a bad way either. I accepted how the events played out but some of the motives and actions seemed off, like maybe author did not know how to tie all the plot elements into final closure. She took a lot of liberties with the characters to make it work. And of course I have to say that I hate the cover, it like of looks like he just sucked on a lemon. Not sexy and not intriguing.
Overall I liked it enough that I would read another, just hope only the characters that I liked come back in future books. For those that care, the few sex scenes the author wrote were not graphic or long and tame. Thanks!
